Schengen Visa Application in Bangkok for Philippine Passport Holder

Philippine passport holders are required to get a Schengen visa when travelling to any of the Schengen countries.

To many Filipinos, Europe is a distant dream. Here are the steps to make this dream a reality.

List of Countries under Schengen Agreement:

Austria                                                              Belgium                                                      Czech Republic
Denmark                                                          Estonia                                                       Finland
France                                                               Germany                                                    Greece
Hungary                                                           Iceland                                                        Italy
Latvia                                                                Lithuania                                                    Luxembourg
Malta                                                                 Netherlands                                               Norway
Poland                                                               Portugal                                                      Slovakia
Slovenia                                                            Spain                                                           Sweden
Switzerland                                                      Liechtenstein

Which Embassy to Apply:

You can apply for a Schengen visa at the embassy or VFS center that serves as your point of entry or to the country where you will stay longest.

In my case, we planned to visit Italy and go car camping and a 2 week trek in the Dolomites. We rented a car in Germany and drove to Italy and stayed there for 2 weeks. My point of entry was Germany but we stayed longer in Italy so I logged my visa application to the Italy VFS Processing Center (http://www.vfsglobal.com/italy/thailand/).

When to Apply?

Application can be made as early as 3 months before the departure date.

What Are The Requirements?

  1. Visa Application form duly filled in English and signed by the applicant.
  2. Two recent passport photographs (white background)
  3. Valid passport with validity of at least 90 days after expiration of visa requested and valid for at least six months from the date of the submission.
  4. Round Trip air ticket booking stating the name of all the applicants

You should only book your real ticket when you are sure you will get a visa, so if you book in advance, make sure that you can cancel the ticket. Without a fully refundable ticket, it is better to get a Thai travel agent to issue you with a tentative reservation, which the Embassy will accept as valid.

The easiest way to do this is go to a travel agency, asked them to book you a ticket for visa application. I got mine at Big-C On Nut on the third floor.

  1. For applicants invited by Italian friends/family in Italy: invitation letter and ID/passport copy with the page with the signature of the person who invites the applicant. In case the inviter is a non-EU citizen, a copy of passport and copy of the Italian residence permit is needed.
  1. Confirmed hotel booking for the whole duration of the trip.

Yes, most of you might think why would you book a hotel when you aren’t sure you will get a visa. But this is one of their requirements, and you MUST comply with their rules. I booked all my hotels on booking.com. There are some hotels without a booking fee or deposit and you are allowed to cancel your booking without any penalty. Some don’t even need Credit Card to book their hotels, so these are the ones to choose. Best to tailor-make your itinerary to match them, and then change everything once you have obtained the visa.

  1. Complete itinerary with dates and cities
  1. Proof of economic situation in the country of residence: statement of the last three months with stable transactions of the bank account of the applicant and copy of the original bank certificate dated not earlier than 15 days before the date of the submission.

The original bank certificate, you can easily get this at your bank. Go to your bank and ask them to provide your bank certificate for visa application purposes. They know what to do.

  1. Work Permit or any long-term visa in Thailand (Non B, Non O, Non-ED visa, Retirement visa, etc.).

Note: If you only have a tourist visa, the VFS staff will not accept your application.

Where to Apply?

Italy Visa Application Centre

191, Silom Complex Building,

15th Floor, Unit – C, Silom Road

Silom Bangrak,

Bangkok 10500

Submission of Application is from 8: 30am -1200 noon (Monday-Friday) Except Holidays

If you have questions, be sure to call them at their Helpline NO. 66 (02) 118 7001 or you can email them at info.itth@vfshelpline.com.

There are a lot of people applying for a visa, so be sure to arrive there early.

How to go there?

Take the BTS and go to Sala Daeng Station. Silom Complex building is connected to Sala Daeng BTS.

Visa Fee

60 Euros + Processing Fee. You can also pay an additional amount to receive SMS on the update of your visa application or to send your passport to you via EMS if you don’t have time to collect.

How long is the Visa Processing?

They usually tell applicants that the processing time is 7 to 15 working days. It is probably depends on how many applicants applying on that month or that season. For me, I submitted my documents on a Wednesday and I received a call from VFS informing me that my visa was approved on Friday. I received my passport sent to my office via EMS Tuesday afternoon.

Visa Collection

If you decided to collect your passport at the VFS Center, the passport collection time is 1300 -1600 hours (Monday-Friday) Except Holidays.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

    Hi Rachel,

Do you have experience crossing the EU border (Italy to Germany or other country) and can you share them pls.

    • Raquel October 31, 2017 at 5:54 pm - Reply

      Hi Mel,

I crossed Germany, Austria and Italy and didn’t go to any border like Cambodia to Thailand. I believe this is why we get the Schengen Visa for the Schengen Countries.

      Best to you.

      Hi Ria,

If someone is sponsoring your trip to Italy then that person should provide proof that he/she’s able to support your stay there. To make your application stronger and have a higher chance that you can get a visa is to provide additional proof too that you’re going back in the PI.

          Hi Janine,

We never use travel agency to most of our trips unless its a very remote place that needed a tour agency or guide. Everything was bought/booked online. And yes even for the car but you have the option to just arrange when you get there.

          • Janine April 29, 2017 at 6:21 am - Reply

i see, i thought that since its my first time i will be needing a travel agency, but i guess im gonna cross it out in my list . What about the re-entry from thailand Ms Raquel, when is the best time to get?

Well make sure you have to get a re-entry before you leave the country. You can get it at Chaengwattana or at the airport.

Visa since sept. 2016 and I had a bf tru online I met him but I never ever met him in person, we just got to know each other since 2014 up to now and I went back phil. 2015 to process my tourist visa to italy he sent me all the requirement documents needed at first his invitation letter invited me as a friend in his hometown italy and yet I got denied on the italian embassy in manila, they put a stamp cancel at my passport and now he wants to repeat again the process to invite me as a fiancee this time.. he will declare in his letter of invitation and he will.provide all the necessity . I dont need to have a bank account ? Which he told me he will finance and shoulder all my obligation here.My question is. Will it be possible this to grant me a visa for his declaration of his letter invitation, though ever since we havent met since the beginning but we trust and love and each other we only do video calls and chat messages each other day by day… what will be the result of these..could you give me some ideas or opinion about these for the second time I will re apply again

    Dear Ms. Raquel,

My name is Vicky, I live in pattaya for nearly 2 years now with student visa status. I want to apply for shengen visa and my main target to visit is Spain only ( but the truth is i am going to work there. I have a friend who lives there and willing to help for all the travel cost and invitation letterm. Just want to ask, If when you are applying shengen visa in bangkok does the officer ask for an interview? What should I do?

I been to Moscow Russia twice already as a tourist visa. My invitation letter was made in russia and was sent to here, then I apply online and print the application and submit it to the russian embassy in bangkok and there was no interview done which was really stress free.

    Your advice is higly appreciated.

    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Vicky

    • Raquel April 23, 2017 at 3:45 pm - Reply

      Hi Vicky,

Base from my experience there was no interview, all I did was submit all their requirements.

Secure all their requirements before submitting your application and prove that you are coming back here. Having had traveled is also an advantage.

Try to apply you never know 🙂 Good luck and hope you will get a visa.

      Hi Julie,

There is no specific amount as to how much should be in your account when you apply for a visa. I only had about 150k at that time, I think what they look is the flow of money coming in and out.

Have a great day and good luck on your visa application.

        Hi Shirly,

I can’t speak on behalf of the Italian Embassy, I am just sharing my experience when I get my Schengen Visa.

Whatever is the reason with your visa denial the first time you applied it should be your basis this time when applying the second time. Even your sponsor is taking care of everything you still need to prove that you are coming back here or in the Philippines. Having no back account (money) to show will just give them reason to deny you again.

Anyhow, try to secure all their requirements before you file your application. Good luck and I hope you can get a visa this time.

Can a Filipino apply for Schengen visa in Bangkok? Or do they need to do it in the Philippines?

    • Raquel February 22, 2017 at 1:01 pm - Reply

Hi, yes a Filipino can apply for a Schengen visa in Bangkok as long as they have a long term visa (Non-B, ED, O, etc.) in Thailand.

    HI,

i am planning to get a Schengen Visa to Germany, I met a friend online and been chatting for 3 months now. I want to visit my friend and ask an invitation letter as one of the requirement for tourist and easiest way. My question is do you think they will allow me to enter Germany though I work in bangkok for so long time with my work permit.

      Hi Marshan,

Since you have a work permit and have been working in Thailand for a long time, I would suggest you apply even without an invitation letter. As long as you can prove that you’re coming back here, there wouldn’t be any problem. Follow and provide all their requirements!

      Good luck.

Hi, I just came across your blog. I just wanna ask how much did you pay for the air ticket reservation at Big C On Nut?

    Thanks!

      Hi Martina,

I only paid 300 Bht. You can just tell the lady that it is for visa application, she knows what to do.
